Флаг утвержден решением Ясиноватского городского совета ( Протокол от 6 августа 1997 года). Описание флага:
"Флаг представляет собой горизонтальное прямоугольное полотнище, стороны которого соотносятся в пропорции 2 : 1, разделенное цветами, продольными, равновеликими полосами на три части: верхнее поле - синего цвета, среднее поле - белого цвета, нижнее поле - желтого цвета. В правом верхнем углу флага (ближнем к древку) на синюю и белую полосы наложен малый герб города Ясиноватая".
В соответствии с классической традицией в европейской геральдике цветам, выбранным для флага города Ясиноватая, придается следующие символические значения, призванные олицетворять славное прошлое и прекрасное будущее города и горожан: синий – слава, честь, искренность и вечная молодость; белый – жизнь, чистота, мир; желтый, отождествляемый в геральдике с золотом – величие, уважение, великолепие.
Авторы герба: художник - Член союза художников, Лауреат международных конкурсов графического дизайна Пресняков Александр Павлович (г.Донецк); составитель описания - член союза журналистов Свистунов Сергей Евгеньевич (г.Донецк).
